Impressive oval shaped locket that was made circa 1880-90’s
It has a bold double band front and back with a rope work design detail on either side.
The bale can take quite a wide chain through it. It opens to reveal two compartments for photographs.
Lockets such as this one were worn on ornate silver collars but look far better these days worn with a good trace link chain
